Inspiration

Baiana woman in the streets of Salvador

I work either individually or with other artists creating spaces that illustrate experiences from far away places. I celebrate difference, and with my work I believe in individuals moving towards social change and empowerment.

My work focuses around individual and collective experiences and cultural expression. Yoruban people and their culture, specially around the figures of Oya-Iansa (goddess of winds and storms), Oxum (goddess of beauty and fresh water) and Xango (god of thunder) provide me with the inspiration to explore emotions, movements and stories. My work addresses basic emotions interpreted through the performance of different dance styles, encouraging participants to express themselves in a fun light.

My experience as a dancer encompasses different dance styles. I mainly work with movement developed from classic Samba, Afro-Brazilian, African and Flamenco styles, contemporary dance, Egyptian (rak-sharki), hip-hop and street dance.

I therefore base my work on a fusion of styles and different techniques making the dance highly accessible and tailored to the experiences of the audiences.
