Some of the projects I am currently involved in are:
1. Celebratory Carnival Dance and Celebratory Carnival Dance for over 60s
Movement classes which explore Afro-Brazilian rhythms inspired by the Candomble divinities, regional dances such as Maracatu, Samba, Samba Reggae and other Latin dances.
Fusion techniques, performance skills and improvisation form the basis for this dance technique
2. TIDE: Transformation and Inspiration throught the Dance of the Elements
In association with Swedish/Brazilian dancer and choreographer Paula de Hollanda www.pauladehollanda.com
TIDE is a work in progress project where Silvestre technique, created by Rosangela Silvestre, www.silvestrelink.com, fuses with contemporary dance techniques and orixa dance. This style aims at challenging preconceived structures and techniques in terms of posture, mobility, coordination and fluidity. A first piece of this work was performed at the World Dance Unite 2007, London www.worlddanceunite.com. For further information on this project and future performances please get in touch.
3. Synergy: personal development through
voice and movement
- (in collaboration with vocal coach and musician Polina Shepherd,www.polinashepherd.co.uk) This project, originally funded by the Arts Council of England, consists of a group of sessions and performances aiming at helping participants to open up to experiences and feelings through the use of movement and song. The course offers the genuine characteristic of using Afro-Brazilian traditional dances, evoking the Candomble divinities, and Jewish wordless songs ( niggunim) to explore hidden aspects within each person. For an updated information about the project please visit Synergy website at www.synergyarts.org.uk
4. Other projects
"PATH TO THE ANCESTORS" - in collaboration with the South African drummer and dancer, Risenga Makondo. This project consisted of the exploration of rhythms and traditions from Africa, Brazil and Spain, finding bridges between continents and cultures. As part of this project, we performed and provided workshops at Womad ( Caceres, Spain & Rivermead, UK) and Dartington (Dartington Plus).
